Mark and Emily are a very special couple. I attended high school with them when they first started dating. After high school, Emily and I both attended Penn State. I was able to watch Mark and Emily grow together as a couple, and I have to say they are two of the kindest people I have ever met. After graduation Emily took a job with Johnson and Johnson in New Jersey and Mark was finishing PA school. They were always a couple who had their heads on straight and a great plan for their future.
In February of 2013, Mark got in touch with me about a special project. I had been working on building my photography business and Mark had a job for me. Mark explained his plans to ask Emily for her hand in marriage and he wanted me to be there to capture the special moment. I didn’t even hesitate before saying YES! Over the next few weeks Mark filled me in on his plans for the big proposal. He was going to send Emily on a day of pampering with two of her best friends, Anna and Kelsey. They took Emily to get her nails done, shopping for new outfits, the works! The day would culminate at Media Presbyterian Church where Mark would pop the question!
It was obvious just how excited Mark was and when the day finally arrived so was I! Mark and Emily were my first big Engagement Session and were really cheerleaders for my business. I owe so much to them. I met up with Mark at the Church and he poured over the details of the morning. I could see his anticipation building. Sharing in the excitement made me realize even more just how much I loved photographing couples. There is something so beautiful about two people taking this leap into life together.
As we waited the sun began to slowly descend in the sky casting the most gorgeous light over the garden next to the church. Mark received a phone call from Kelsey that they were about to arrive. Showtime!
A blind-folded Emily rounded the corner, stumbling towards us with nervous feet. Kelsey led her to the front walkway of the church and told her to remove the blindfold. Then I snapped my shutter and as Emily removed her blindfold she saw me and looked confused. Her eyes shifted to the front of the church and Mark stepped out from behind the giant white pillars at the front of the building. Slowly he made his way to her and took her hands in his. Emily stood silently smiling until Mark knelt down and presented Emily with his grandmother’s diamond ring in a beautiful new setting. He told Emily how much he loved her and there was no hesitation before Emily said YES!
Mark and Emily are an amazing couple that deserve all the happiness in the world. Take a look here at their engagement photos and you will see what I mean.
